I discovered a novel approach to maintaining both my physical and mental health during the COVID-19 lockdown which necessitates me to work from home. Since my normal commute was about an hour each way, I am using the extra time walking to and from work every day. What that means is when I wake up in the morning get dressed in my workout clothes and I go out and walk for about an hour around my neighborhood. I can almost cover 3 miles during that hour. After the walk is complete, I take a shower, make my breakfast, and then login for the day. At the end my workday, I repeat the procedure by walking about an hour, taking a shower, and eating dinner.
The walks are beneficial in that in the morning I get my exercise into start today and in the evening, it is a great stress reliever. During my walks, I listen to books via Audible which has been beneficial for my personal development. Listening to Audible frees time for me in the evening to work on personal projects such as building my podcast and YouTube studio. FYI, it is almost done.
The new world paradigm will require many adjustments by all of us. In some ways, as there is with any major process shift, there will be challenges people adjust to the post virus world. But for some people, the extra time offers opportunities that we may not have recognized were available because of time constraints.
Don’t be afraid to change your routine. It may be beneficial not only to your physical well-being, but your mental health too.
