I started a new job earlier this month that presented an unforeseen benefit: Educating myself during the commute. My commute is about an hour each way but limited traffic, so instead of listening to XM or the local sports radio station ramble on about the Red Sox and the Patriots, I started listening to audiobooks on the morning commute and podcasts on the ride home. I have listened to self-help books, nonfiction books about Theranos and the Silk Road website, investment strategies, and whatever comes to mind. The Audible subscription gets used. One of my favorite Podcasts is Rich Roll who has some fascinating guests. Simon Sinek is another favorite.
Not only am I educating myself, but the experience is also great stress relief, especially on the way home. Some of the authors are fantastic narrators. I am using what typically was a simple exercise getting to and from work, is now a fun time. Being more efficient with my time allows me more free time for exercising when I get home.
What am I listing to now? I Alone Can Fix It by Carol Leonning and Philip Rucker. Pardon the bluntness, but it is fucking scary shit. Almost like a Stephen King novel, only it is real.
